PRE-KINDERGARTEN
TLPCDC utilizes the Core Knowledge Curriculum as part of its pre-kindergarten program. This curriculum is currently used by hundreds of schools and thousands of dedicated educators throughout the United States. Core Knowledge was started by Dr. E.D. Hirsch, Jr., author of Cultural Literacy and The Schools We Need, and is based on a large body of research in cognitive psychology and comparative research on the world's fairest and most effective school systems. The Core Knowledge Curriculum is an educational reform program based on the premise that a grade-by-grade core of common learning is necessary to ensure a sound and fair education.
The Core Knowledge Curriculum allows your child to experience all areas of learning. Throughout your child’s day at TLPCDC, he/she will learn a second language (Spanish), sign language and participate in a variety of learning centers, to include, but not limited to science, math, reading, writing, art, dramatic play and computer concepts.
Your child will also use the National “Handwriting without Tears”, a program that was developed by Pediatric Occupational Therapist, Jan Z. Olsen. The program is a multi-sensory handwriting curriculum that taps the skills children master at various developmental stages and encourages a natural form of handwriting. Handwriting without Tears pre-kindergarten readiness program won the 2004 Distinguished Achievement Award from the Association of Educational Publishers. For nearly 30 years, Olsen has specialized in child development and its application to handwriting.
TLPCDC has low student to teacher ratio in our pre-kindergarten program which will provide your child with the individual attention he/she needs to develop academically. Our pre-kindergarten teachers are highly qualified, with no less three years of child care experience in a group environment. Listed below you will find a developmental outline implemented in our pre-kindergarten program.
