HEALTH

Communicable Diseases
TLPCDC is dedicated to eliminating/minimizing the spread of any type of disease within its facility. Parents, if your child exhibits any of the following symptoms, he/she should not attend the center. If such symptoms occur at the center, the child will be placed in the sick room and you will be called to take him/her home. These symptoms may be signs of common or more serious communicable diseases.

  • Severe pain or discomfort
  • Acute diarrhea (3 or more times)
  • Episodes of acute vomiting (2 or more times)
  • Elevated temperatures of 101.5 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Severe coughing or sore throat
  • Yellow eyes or jaundice
  • Red eyes with discharge
  • Infected, untreated open wounds
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Skin lesions that are bleeding
  • Skin rashes that last longer than 24 hours
  • Swollen joints & stiff neck
  • Blood in urine

Once the child is symptom free for 24 hours, or has a doctor's note stating that he/she no longer poses a serious health threat to himself/herself or others, he/she may return to the center.

Excludable Communicable Disease
A child who contracts any of the following diseases may not return to the center without a physician's note stating that the child presents no risk to himself/herself or others. Parents should understand that we miss their child when he/she is not in our care. However, this policy is a state mandated policy to prevent the spread of communicable diseases among children. If your child is brought to school the next day they will be denied access to the center.

Medication
TLPCDC staff can only administer or dispense medication to a child if a parent completes a Medication Request Form. This form is required every time there is a request for our staff to administer medication to a child. Parents are not allowed to complete a "blanket" Medication Request Form for their child. This applies to prescription and non prescription medication. These forms are for our records and are kept in a medication log at the center. Parents are able to review their child’s medication request forms daily. A doctor's note will be required or our staff cannot administer or dispense medication to a child on an ongoing basis.

Hand Washing
Germs are spread quickly through children. Our mission is to cut down on the spread of germs. If we do not promote healthy practices with our students, sickness is more likely to spread throughout the school. While it is impossible to prevent this altogether, we will do our best to minimize these occurrences. The following is a list of basic practices at TLPCDC that will help to keep your child healthy and germ free:

  • Wash hands after blowing nose
  • Wash hands after using the bathroom
  • Wash hands before & after using the water table
  • Wash hands before snack & lunch
  • Wash hands after playing outside in the sand, dirt, etc.
  • Wash hands when you are dirty
  • Wash hands anytime they are exposed to bodily fluids
